Back to School

It's that time of year... back to school.  I remember those days--the new Trapper Keeper, the smell of a new text book--the nervous tumble in my stomach as I wondered if I'd like my teachers...  Now, I see my children play out this back-to-school ballet.  They can barely hold still, they're so excited.

I have a funny, semi-autobiographical poem on one school experience to share--perhaps some of you can relate.

"The Fall" by Sara Marie Allen

Walking fast to beat the bell,
Running now, I tripped and fell.
I bruised my knee so bad I cried—
Embarrassed, I just died inside.
But now that I was late for class
The teacher said, “You need a pass!”
The Dean and I, we had a talk—
And, so, I told her of my walk.
Laughing, she just signed a pass,
And limping, I walked back to class.
